The GOP and their Trump masters have scheduled the most dangerous and unqualified nominees to be considered in the Senate on the same day, in one-off, one-day committee hearings. While there has been some coverage of Gabbard’s sketchy judgment and lack of intelligence experience, Kash Patel has gone virtually untouched in spite of specific fears that he will weaponize the FBI and turn it into a political tool of the Trump State.
Maybe it’s about to begin. Last night CBS released a story about Patel’s risky behavior involving highly classified activities, including the premature announcement about an operation to rescue hostages. FBI insider raises concerns about Kash Patel's role in hostage rescue
Trump sources flat out denied this situation occurred but it tracks perfectly with Kash’s profile as a political mercenary who was shuttled around the national security community, mainly to play the role of the Trump loyalist at the table. When Trump Attorney General was asked if Patel should get the number 2 job at the FBI in the first Trump Administration, he said, “over my dead body.”
Former National Security Advisor John Bolton has expressed strong opposition to Kash Patel's nomination to lead the FBI, accusing him of exaggerating his credentials and demonstrating greater loyalty to Donald Trump than to the Constitution. “His puffery was characteristic of the resumé inflation we had detected earlier when he was first pressed upon us. He proved less interested in his assigned duties than in worming his way into Mr. Trump’s presence.”
Charles Kupperman, Deputy NSC Director under Trump, told CNN that he and Bolton struggled to find a position for Patel, “We said, ‘OK, Mr. President, we’re seriously trying to find him an appropriate job. But given his background right now we don’t have an appropriate position.’” His background is primarily in political appointments and legal roles that focus on defending political allies rather than leading law enforcement agencies.
Senators should also be concerned about what Patel could do to them. Patel has criticized at least 17 GOP senators for voting to fund the military and foreign aid and strongly alluded that senators like Mitch McConnell were “Government Gangsters.” Kash Patel Returns - In the Litter Box w/ Jewels & Catturd
Seems like the world’s most deliberative body should deliberate more carefully before rubber stamping Patel’s nomination.
