Team Trump is trying to force the three riskiest and most dangerous nominees for key posts in the Cabinet. The nominations of RFK Jr., Tulsi Gabbard and Kash Patel represent a pattern of putting loyalty over qualification which would put our national security at risk and fail to keep the American people safe. Much has been made of the risks of primary election threats to wavering Republican Senators. What about the threats to our nation? Do senators really want to risk the nation’s safety and security by rubberstamping these unqualified amateurs?
These horribly flawed nominees were supported by the “flood the zone” strategy. It was simple, stoke MAGA, pressure Senators and do a full makeover of their nominees disqualifying traits. To the Senate and the public, this cast of characters have seen the light, have been redeemed by their fealty to Trump. RFK Jr. is an obvious disaster for his failure to acknowledge that vaccines work and Gabbard has consistently struggled to explain her entanglements with Russia and a deposed Syrian dictator. When cornered about whether Edward Snowden was a traitor, she totally booted the answer. Both got crossways with the GOP members.
Patel was different. Perhaps the most dangerous of all three, he was repeatedly forced to answer for his extreme views, his questionable financial arrangements and his association with the violent criminals who attacked police. Of the three, Patel came off with the most swagger, confident that bros like Tom Tillis would have his back. Patel and Team Trump were betting that he would slide through yesterday, but serious questions are just beginning to be considered.
1. Why did Patel lie to the committee about his associations with violent offenders of J6? He claimed not to know Stew Peters, though he had appeared on his show at least 8 times. He raised and spent charitable dollars on a campaign to glorify the cop beaters of J6, but claimed not to know any of the participants in the J6 choir video.
2. During a dangerous hostage rescue in 2020, Patel violated security protocols, leaking details of the mission to the WSJ, endangering the lives of all that were involved in the operation. Can Patel really be trusted with the nation’s secrets?
3. Patel has become a millionaire off promoting election conspiracies and promoting MAGA causes and merchandise. After years in low paying political jobs, Patel became a political mercenary, making millions. He recently relocated to Las Vegas where he is a member of a gambling club that cost $20k just to join.
4. Patel invoked his right against self-incrimination in a federal grand jury, avoiding charges of a crime. Kash stated during the hearing that he wants his grand jury testimony released. Will the GOP help Kash with releasing his testimony to the public?
RFK Jr, Gabbard and Patel, with Pete Hegseth newly installed DOD secretary, are not the dream team of leaders we need to keep America safe. They are a national nightmare.
