During today’s hearing, Senate Armed Services Committee Ranking Member Jack Reed D-RI, declared his opposition to Hegseth and also cited a letter sent to the committee by multiple veteran and military family organizations expressing grave concerns about Hegseth’s lack of qualifications and background to competently lead the Department of Defense. The letter was signed by Chamberlain Network, CommonDefense.us, the Modern Military Association of America, the Truman National Security Project, and Veterans for Responsible Leadership.
In addressing Hegseth, Reed summarized that “the totality of your own writings and alleged conduct would disqualify any service member from holding any leadership position in the military, much less being confirmed as the secretary of Defense.”
North Kingstown resident and Common Defense Board member Alexander McCoy thanked Ranking Member Jack Reed, saying “Thank you for acknowledging, as recorded in the congressional record, the grave concerns of veterans in Rhode Island, as well as all around the country, regarding the nomination of Pete Hegseth as Secretary of Defense.
