ICYMI: Forget Advice, Give Consent - Karoline Speaks

She may be new, but she knows where the President stands - Take no advice, demand consent.

Newly-minted WH Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt issued a stark warning for GOP Senators today during her regular press briefing, saying the WH would be "very disappointed" in senators who voted against Trump's nominees. All of them. She may be new, but she knows where the President stands - Take no advice, demand consent. The fact is that Senate GOP Leadership have gamed the rules of the Senate to stifle inquiry at every turn.

Perhaps the three most controversial picks, Tulsi Gabbard, RFK and Kash Patel, had many questions about their backgrounds and qualifications. The Senate scheduled their hearings all on the same day, flooding the zone, as they say. Since then they have systematically limited questions and shut down debate during hearings. With Hegseth, they refused to hold a second round of questions, even after some shocking revelations. For Patel, the public didn't even have Patel's financial disclosures showing questionable ties to the Embassy of Qatar or to a Chinese company until AFTER his hearing. More serious allegations came to light around his role in the J6 firings, but the GOP called it all hearsay and refused to schedule another hearing. As it is, Patel is on rails toward the Senate floor.

Today it looks like Trump is riding rough shod on the Senate. But game the system for risky nominees and you get risky outcomes. Where will these Senators be when the risk comes home to roost?
