China, Russia, Qatar and a Czech arms dealer bankroll Patel's rise to power

Rising from a low-paid government staffer's salary, Patel has attained wealth and prestige among far-right groups. Whether it's a sweetheart deal with Chinese clothing firm, Shein, a contract with a Czech arms dealer, a cozy consulting arrangement with Qatar, or taking funds from a film company with Russian ties, these financial arrangements spark serious questions about where Patel's interests truly lie.

Patel's financial disclosures tell a complicated story of influence peddling, of promoting conspiracies in the name of a dollar made off of the fame of Donald Trump. And apparently Trump approves of Patel's schemes - on the eve of his Senate confirmation, DJT awarded some $800,000 in stock. Said one observer, "In Patel, we have the perfect storm of conflicts of interest - an ambitious young man, who is close to power, who has a taste for the finer things - and has a history of willingness to trade on his connections."

The Senate still has time to fully vet this flawed nominee. His entanglements with foreign actors leave him vulnerable to influence that run directly counter US national interests.

Bonus weekend MOTD:

Momentum is building for greater scrutiny of Kash Patel's financial holdings. Patel has spent the last four years promoting the demise of the FBI while at the same time building close financial ties to various foreign powers. In one disturbing case, Patel earned $25,000 for his work developing content for a company espousing anti-Western views advanced by the Kremlin. The increasing evidence on Patel's shady dealings has led to an increase in opposition to his nomination. Earlier this week, the chaos at the FBI led legendary former Director, Judge William Webster, to beseech Judiciary Committee Chair to dig deeper on the allegations and to use his power to oppose Patel and the dismantlement of the FBI.
